The Nexus Advisors

BOOKKEEPING CLEANUP & CATCH-UP

A practical starting point for books that need attention.

Behind on bookkeeping or unsure why an account does not reconcile? The Nexus Advisors helps organize the records, identify bookkeeping gaps, and work through an agreed cleanup plan. We prepare the groundwork and supporting schedules for review by your independent CPA.

Our role is preparation and support. Nexus is not a CPA firm and does not hold a CPA designation. We prepare bookkeeping records and draft materials; your independent CPA handles professional review.

THE STARTING POINT

Understand the gaps before setting the plan.

Cleanup projects vary. Some involve entering overdue transactions; others require tracing missing documents, duplicate entries, or differences between the books and statements. We start with the periods and accounts involved, the condition of the records, and any concerns already identified by you or your CPA. From there, we agree on the work, responsibilities, timing, and fees. Missing evidence and questions requiring professional judgment are made visible so the handoff reflects what has and has not been resolved.

WHAT THE WORK CAN INCLUDE

A clear scope.
Useful preparation.

01

A defined cleanup scope

Identify the periods, accounts, and bookkeeping issues included in the project. Establish a document list and priorities, making clear which work depends on additional records or guidance from your independent CPA.

02

Catch-up transaction records

Organize overdue transactions using the available source documents and agreed coding approach. Flag entries that need an explanation or supporting evidence instead of filling gaps with unsupported assumptions.

03

Reconciliations and discrepancy lists

Work through the included bank and credit card accounts against their statements. Track missing entries, duplicate items, and unexplained differences so the appropriate corrections can be considered and documented.

04

Supporting schedules and a change record

Prepare the agreed schedules and document bookkeeping corrections made within the authorized scope. Questions involving prior filings, accounting policy, or professional judgment are referred to your independent CPA.

05

A clear completion handoff

Provide the agreed reconciliations, draft reports, and a list of unresolved items. Explain any record limitations and remaining questions so you and your CPA can assess the next steps.

HOW WE WORK TOGETHER

From the first conversation
to a practical handoff.

  1. 01

    Map the records

Tell us which periods are behind, the accounting system you use, and the accounts involved. Share existing reports and statements so we can understand the condition of the bookkeeping records.

  2. 02

    Work through the agreed plan

Supply missing documents and answer business questions as the work progresses. We organize entries, reconcile accounts, and track matters requiring your authorization or your CPA’s direction.

  3. 03

    Hand off and plan ahead

Review the completion package and outstanding-item list. Your independent CPA handles professional review. If you want ongoing support, we can separately discuss a monthly routine based on the cleaned-up records.

A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Questions before
we begin.

How long does a cleanup project take?

Timing depends on the number of periods and accounts, transaction volume, record quality, and how quickly questions can be resolved. We discuss the expected sequence after the initial scope assessment; a fixed completion date is not assumed before that assessment.

What if some statements or receipts are missing?

We identify the missing records and explain which work depends on them. You may need to obtain replacement documents. Any remaining gaps are recorded in the handoff rather than treated as verified information.

Does cleanup include CPA review or amended tax returns?

No. Nexus is not a CPA firm and does not hold a CPA designation. We prepare bookkeeping records, reconciliations, draft reports, and schedules. Your independent CPA handles professional review and advice about prior filings; audit, assurance, certification, and tax return filing are outside our services.
